POLICE have seized a five-figure sum of cash as well as 'significant' amounts of drugs during a series of raids in Hawick.

Officers descended on three houses, a garage and a licensed premises during Friday.

Plain clothed officers including specialist search teams from across the East of Scotland executed the search warrants.

A 28-year-old male and a 25-year-old female were charged with supply of a Class A drug and will appear in court at a later date.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace others who are connected with recovered drugs.

This is the latest successful activity carried out by Police Scotland as part of Operation Gatekeeper, which was launched with the aim of targeting serious and organised crime.

Area Commander, Chief Inspector Andy McLean told the Border Telegraph: "We will not tolerate any individual who is involved in the supply of controlled substances and through coordinated activity such as Operation Gatekeeper we will continue to target those responsible for drug crime and bring them to justice.

"A significant amount of Class A and C drugs have now been removed from our streets, which is to be welcomed and I can assure the public that any information passed to us in relation to drug activity will be acted on appropriately and handled in a discreet manner.

"If you want to report or have information relating to offences in your area then please contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
