CONCERN is growing for a missing Hawick man.

Robert Cantle was last seen near the town centre at around 2:45am on Sunday, July 24.

The 45-year-old, who may have been driving a a grey coloured Fiat Punto with the registration ST54 HCH, hasn't been in contact with any of his friends or family since.

Robert is described as white, 5ft 7ins tall, bald, with a distinctive red beard and has a stocky build.

He is known to wear glasses and was last seen wearing a black zipped fleece type jacket and a blue t-shirt with a large 'Everest' logo on the front.

Police are keen to establish Robert's whereabouts and anyone who believes they have seen him since the early hours of Sunday morning is asked to come forward.

Inspector Bryan Burns said: "Robert's family are extremely anxious that he is found as quickly as possible and we are doing everything we can to trace him.

"Today, I am appealing to anyone who has information on his whereabouts or who has seen the grey coloured Fiat Punto we believe he is driving to contact police immediately.

"It's out of character for him to go off without telling anyone and our concern for his welfare is growing.

"At this stage, our search is being concentrated in the Scottish Borders and I ask local communities to look out for Robert and his Fiat motorcar.

"In addition, I also appeal directly to Robert to get in touch with friends, family or police and let us know you are okay."

Anyone who has seen Robert or has relevant information should contact police on 101 or speak to any officer.
