THE residents of Lindean paid a tribute to the village’s hall keeper, Ian Hardie, who is stepping down from the post after 40 years of service.

To mark his retiral, the hall committee presented Ian with a painting of the hall by Lindean artist Shona Lenahan.

Before making the presentation, local resident Harry Russell thanked Ian for all his years of hard work and dedication.

"Since first taking on the job to look after the hall," Harry began, "Ian has overseen a remarkable number of changes – new roof, new exterior, new floor, new kitchen and new car park to name but a few – and we owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

"Today Lindean has one of the most well appointed village halls in the Borders, and Ian Hardie has played a huge part in ensuring its continued success and survival."

Committee member Ruth McLachlan presented Ian’s wife Gwen with a bouquet of flowers, and both presentations took place at the end of a highly successful and well attended strawberry tea in the hall.
