THOUSANDS of pounds worth of damage has been caused at Hawick's Burnfoot Primary School after a number of windows were smashed by vandals.

The incident occurred sometime between July 16 and 25 - police are continuing with inquiries to trace those responsible and are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward. 

Community Sergeant for Hawick,Tom Quinn said: "This is a needless act of destruction that will be of great expense to the school and we are investigating the matter thoroughly to identify whoever was involved.

"Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the school recently, or who believes they can assist with this ongoing inquiry should contact police immediately. 

 "I would also urge parents to discuss this incident with their children and remind them of the potential dangers and consequences associated with such offences."
