POLICE have renewed their appeal for information to help trace a missing Hawick man.

Robert Cantle from the Howgate in Hawick, and previously from the Jedburgh area, was last seen at around 2.45 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, near to the town centre.

However, has not returned home or made contact with family or friends since this time.

Police were summoned to a meeting earlier this morning to discuss any leads in tracing Robert's whereabouts, but no progress has been made.

Robert has Type 1 diabetes and officers do not believe he took his medication with him.

Concern continues to grow for his welfare and anyone who knows is current whereabouts is asked come forward.

Robert is 45-years-old and described as white, 5ft 7ins tall, bald with a stock build and distinctive red beard.

He is known to wear glasses and was last seen wearing a black zipped fleece type jacket and a blue t-shirt with a large 'Everest' logo on the front.

It is believed he is driving a grey coloured Fiat Punto with registration ST54 HCH.

Inspector Bryan Burns from Melrose Police Station said: "We haven't traced Robert and we are concerned that he doesn't appear to have the medication he requires to treat his diabetes, which obviously increases our level of concern for his wellbeing.

"Officers are continuing with their inquiries throughout the Borders to find him and anyone who believes they may have seen him since Sunday morning should contact police immediately.

“Residents within rural areas are also advised to check their properties for any signs of Robert or his vehicle and report any findings to their local policing team.

"I would also appeal directly to Robert to get in touch with us."
