TRAIN services will be affected on Sundays throughout August and September to allow steam services to operate on the Borders Railway line.

Following the success of last year's sell-out steam train trips, ScotRail has announced they will return this summer, but has warned some journeys between Edinburgh Waverley and Tweedbank will take longer than normal.

Passengers who travel on Sundays are being advised to check the train times on the website http://www.scotrail.co.uk or the ScotRail app to see if their journey is affected.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: "We’re really excited to welcome steam trains back to this Borders this summer. It’s a fantastic way for people to travel on the new line in such a unique style.

"To allow the steam services to run, we’ve had to make some minor timetable changes to trains between Edinburgh and Tweedbank on Sundays in August and September," she added.

"Some trains will take longer than normal so we’re encouraging customers who normally travel on this route on Sundays to check our website or app to see if their journey is affected."

Two steam trips will be offered every Sunday in August and in September.

The first trip of the day will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 9:46am, reach Tweedbank at 11.15am and arrive back in the capital at 3:20pm.

The second trip of the day will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 4:46pm, reach Tweedbank at 6:15pm and arrive back in the capital at 9:25pm.
