AS part of the of the Flodden 1513 Ecomuseum project, a host of community volunteers have been uncovering a range of historical objects from sites all around the battlefield.

Throughout the project many volunteers have taken part in excavations, uncovering a range of pottery from prehistoric to modern.

Field walking has also played a major part in discovering pottery, where volunteers have carefully walked transects through recently ploughed fields, searching for any objects of interest, being meticulous in both locating and unearthing each and every one.

Next weekend a pottery workshop, which is open to all, will be held at the Coldstream Museum.

Richard Carlton, a specialist in pottery technology and a potter himself, who has been involved in many of the excavations, will lead this fascinating day.

Richard will begin by introducing the variety of pottery that is typical of the area, before showing some of the best examples of the pottery found over the recent years by community volunteers.

This will be followed by a demonstration of the various stages involved in pottery-making, and there will also be the opportunity for people, to roll up their sleeves and have a go at the potter’s wheel.

Alistair Bowden from the Flodden 1513 Ecomuseum project said: "This really is a great opportunity for people to come along and learn all about the pottery we have unearthed throughout the duration of the project.

"Many volunteers have given their time and have discovered some pieces of real interest.

"These workshops are always hugely popular, so I would urge anyone wishing to get involved, to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment."

The Pottery workshop will take place on Saturday, September 10.

Similar events are also scheduled to take place throughout October.

The second in the programme will be a workshop on flint tools hosted by Dr Rob Young, where participants will have the chance to do some flint knapping.

This will be followed by an event on October 22, led by Dr David Caldwell, looking at military objects, and will include a demonstration of period weaponry by Dr John Sadler.
