SELKIRK Vintage Rally has been hailed a huge success.

And organisers have revealed it's full steam ahead for the once-threatened event.

More than 1,000 people enjoyed a day of nostalgia and engines at Sunderland Hall on Sunday.

And entries for all of the 28 different classes were described as 'healthy'.

Gordon Edgar, secretary of the Selkirk Vintage Rally, said: "This was the best Rally we've had in many years.

"Everything came together and there were smiles wherever you looked.

"We have a great group of volunteers and it is them who make Selkirk Vintage Rally such a success."

As well as displays and trade stalls, there was entertainment for the whole family with a children's treasure hunt, quad bikes and rides.

Many of the competitors in the vintage classes also took advantage of the weekend's good weather by taking part in the annual Scenic Run on Saturday.

Mr Edgar added: "We normally end the Rally at around 4.30 or 5pm but everyone was having such a good time most were still on site well after 6pm.

"Everyone was saying that they can't wait until next year - we have really good sponsors and supporters so I'm sure we'll can keep going for a few years yet."

Selkirk Vintage Rally's main sponsors are Adam Purves and Morris Leslie Auctions.

Other sponsors include Crossburn Caravans, Pearsons Coal, Whitmuir Hall and Arpal.
