A HAWICK man has been remanded in custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court after being accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards a young man with a disability.
Thirty four year old Jason Lowe denies shouting and swearing and acting in an intimidating manner.
Lowe is alleged to have called the young man with a learning disability "retarded" as well as a "paedophile" and a "pervert".
The offence is alleged to have happened in Dovemount Place, Hawick, on August 31.
Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said it would be unfair to keep Lowe locked up until his trial date on October 6.
But Sheriff Peter Paterson refused a motion for bail and remanded Lowe in custody.
