POLICE are trying to track down a pervert who flashed at a grandmother and her young granddaughter in Selkirk.

And the Border Telegraph believes the same man may have been responsible for a similar disturbing incident in Galashiels the week before.

On Saturday a woman and her primary-school-aged granddaughter were approached in Selkirk's Station Road, close to the town's leisure centre, at around 6pm.

The man, who was wearing a dark-coloured dressing gown, then exposed himself before fleeing the scene.

Inspector Bryan Burns, who is leading the investigation, told the Border Telegraph: "This indecent and inappropriate behaviour is totally unacceptable and has left the two witnesses understandably distressed.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this individual or who has any information that can assist us in identifying him."

The Selkirk flasher is described as white, between 30 and 40 years old with dark hair, which may have been a wig.

As well as the dark-coloured dressing gown, he was wearing outdoor shoes.

It is believed he arrived in Station Road from the Muthag Street direction.

Inspector Burns added: "Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

The Selkirk incident has caused widespread anger in the local community.

But the Border Telegraph understands that a similar flashing incident took place six days earlier in Galashiels.

And the description of the pervert is similar.

On Monday, October 10 a woman was approached by a strangely dressed man as she walked down Winston Road towards Galafoot.

Again he exposed himself in front of her before fleeing the scene.

A description of the Galashiels pervert has been given to Police Scotland and inquiries are ongoing.

Officers were unable to confirm if the incidents are related at the time of going to press.
