THOUSANDS of Borderers are expected to turn out to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
This Sunday, 15 towns in the region will host parades in tribute to those killed during conflict as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations. They include:
Galashiels:
Begins at 12.20pm at the British Legion.
Route: Park Street – Channel Street – Market Street – War Memorial – Bank Street – Channel Street– Park Street
Melrose:
Begins at 10.25am at the Old Town Hall.
Route: Old Town Hall – Abbey Street – Market Square – High Street – War Memorial
Selkirk:
Begins at 10.10am at O’Malley’s Sports Bar.
Route: Phase one: O’Malley’s Sports Bar –The Valley – Selkirk Parish Church
Phase two at 11.15am: Parish Church – High Street – Selkirk War Memorial
Phase three at 12noon: War Memorial to Co-op High Street
St Boswells:
Begins at 10.50am
Route: There will be no parade route as such as members of the public make their own way to the War Memorial after the church service
Earlston:
Begins at 10.30am at Church Street.
Route: Church Street to The Square
Jedburgh:
Begins at 10.35am at High Street.
Route: 57 High Street –Market Place –Abbey Place – Abbey Bridge End – War Memorial – cross A68 to Oxnam Road – Parish Church; reverse on return
Hawick:
Begins at 10.30am
Route: Common Haugh to Museum – Victoria Road – Albert Bridge – Sandbed – High Street – O’Connell Street
Lauder:
Begins at 10.30am
Route: The Avenue – A68 to War Memorial – Lauderdale Hotel to church
Road closures:
To accommodate the parades, there will be road closures this Sunday:
Galashiels – This Sunday 12noon-1.30pm: Park Street, Channel Street, Market Street, Cornmill Square, Bank Street, High Street.
Parking will be prohibited on Sunday, November 13 between 12noon and 1.30pm on Market Street opposite the bus stop at No 11.
Selkirk – 10am-12.30pm: The Valley, West Port – from The Valley to Market Place, Market Place – from West Port to High Street, High Street, Ettrick Terrace – from Market Place to The Valley.
Earlston – 10.15-11.15am: Church Street, East Green, High Street, The Square.
Melrose – 10.15-11.30am: Abbey Street, Market Square, High Street, St Mary’s Road.
St Boswells – 10.50-11.15am: A68 – at St Boswells war memorial.
Jedburgh – 10.30am-12.30pm: High Street, Market Place, Abbey Place, Abbey Bridge End, A68 from Abbey Bridge End to Oxnam Road, and Oxnam Road.
Hawick – 10.15-11.45am: Victoria Road, Albert Road, Sandbed, High Street, O’Connell Street.
