A PLUMBER who drove home from a day out at Kelso Races while almost five times the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the road for 15 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Mark Young crashed his vehicle into a road sign at the A698 roundabout near Sainsbury's shortly after 10pm on Saturday, October 22.
Police officers attended and it became apparent that 28-year-old Young of Minto Place, Hawick, had been drinking.
He admitted a charge of driving with a breath/alcohol count of 105 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said: "He had been at the Kelso Races meeting with a friend and stupidly decided to drive home."
In addition to the disqualification period, Young was also fined £350.
