POLICE in the Borders have issued a fresh warning over cold callers.
It follows a report from a member of the public stating they recieved a call pressuring them into purchasing a gas alarm, or face fines worth thousands of pounds.
In a statement from Police Scotland, they said: "A member of the community has received a phone call from a male advising them that there is a mandatory requirement to fit a gas alarm and if they do not they could be fined £5000.
"The caller has gone on to state they could fit the alarm for £150.
"Please be aware of any contact whether by phone, text, email or in person where someone threatens imminent action.
"No legitimate company or firm would cold call making such a threat.
"Do not give personal details including banking details to any cold callers."
