TWEEDBANK pupils have been getting involved in the latest online craze that is freezing the world.

The Mannequin Challenge has gone viral with thousands of people getting involved from the likes of celebrities Andy Murray, James Corden, Victoria Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo doing their bit, and racking up millions of views worldwide.

The video craze involves people freezing for the camera and imitating mannequins while the camera goes around the room with music playing in the background.

P7 Teacher Roddy Graham told the Border Telegraph: "We did it as part of the school's Book Week Scotland celebrations. We asked pupils to dress as their favourite book character on Friday and had a wide range of characters including Harry Potter, The Gruffalo, Alice from Wonderland and Where's Wally.

"There were well over 50 pupils who took part in the dress up and, because the Mannequin Challenge has taken over social media in the past few weeks, we decided it'd be cool to do our own book inspired version.

"It surprisingly only took two takes to get it right and the pupils enjoyed the challenge of staying still and silent throughout (which is a difficult thing for children to do!)"

Roddy added: "We decided to use the library as it felt like the most appropriate venue for the challenge. We hope that by celebrating Book Week Scotland it will encourage our pupils to engage with books and read a wider range of texts throughout their young lives."

The challenge started after teenagers in the United States began performing the Mannequin Challenge in high schools in October, and since then, thousands of videos have been posted online.
