POLICE have confirmed that the death of a forestry worker near Selkirk yesterday was a tragic accident.

The 58-year-old from Jedburgh, who was named locally as Kenny Scott, was killed while working on a rural estate.

Emergency services were called to the Sunderland Hall estate between Selkirk and Galashiels at 2.46pm following reports of a man being badly injured and trapped.

Despite efforts from paramedics and the call-out of an Air Ambulance team, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We dispatched multiple resources to Sunderland Hall, including a helicopter."

Members of the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue were also called out due to the difficult terrain in reaching the casualty.

A spokesman for the Mountain Rescue team stated: "All involved are deeply saddened by this tragic outcome and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased."

Police Scotland have confirmed that they are not treating the man’s death as suspicious.

A spokeswoman stated: “Police in the Scottish Borders are investigating after a 58-year-old man died as a result of an accident in woodland near Selkirk.

“The incident happened around 2.30pm on Tuesday, January 31.

“The death is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”

The Health and Safety Executive have been made aware of the accident.

And a full investigation into the circumstances will be launched.

A HSE spokesman told us: "We have been made aware of an incident at Sunderland Hall and we are liaising with Police Scotland to determine the circumstances."
