A SECOND special guest has been announced as the String Jam Club continue their 20th anniversary celebrations.

Tennessee singer songwriter Amythyst Kiah will appear at the County Hotel in Selkirk on Saturday, February 11.

The Southern Gothic and alt-country blues artist has been dubbed as "rising talent" emerging from the United States as she embarks on her first major tour across the UK.

Host of the String Jam Club, Allie Fox said: "This was an opportunity which the String Jam Club felt was just too good to miss, such is the interest and buzz surrounding this young American musician.

"Amythyst’s influences are not only eclectic and contemporary, but also they span across the whole spectrum of traditional music, especially echoing the greats of American country and blues.

"A classical guitar player since high school with a degree in bluegrass music, she accompanies herself expertly on acoustic guitar and banjo, drawing heavily on old time music such as Son House, Jimmie Rodgers, Olla Belle Reed and the Carter Family.

"We're delighted to be welcoming an artist who has rising talent written all over her, a 29-year-old with a striking shock of hair and a huskily expressive voice which modulates between strength and tenderness."

Amythyst's music is inspired by the vocal stylings of R&B and country music from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Tickets cost £12 (+50p card transaction) and can be purchased by calling the County Hotel in Selkirk on 01750 721233. Tickets will be kept for collection on the night.
