A TEENAGER who admitted careless driving while under the influence of alcohol has been banned from the road for 15 months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Kieran Barron, of Harrison Place in Selkirk, was driving a friend's car without the appropriate licence or insurance when the offence happened during the early hours of March 19 in Weavers Court, Selkirk.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser described how a witness heard a car spinning its wheels shortly after midnight.

Two hours later the same vehicle was spotted coming back into the same park with jerking movements before mounting a pavement and crashing into a wooden fence.

Defence lawyer Fiona Hamilton said her 18-year-old client had been drinking alcohol earlier and said the offence was "stupidity on his behalf".

Barron was disqualified from holding a licence for 15 months. and ordered to carry out 70 hours unpaid work.

His co-accused Kyle Murray, 19, of Bobby Johnstone Green, Selkirk, was banned from driving for six months and fined a total of £300 for causing or permitting Barron to drive with no insurance or licence.
