ALPACAS from Innerleithen are to become the stars in a new BBC TV show airing later this month.

Weekday programme Farmers Country Showdown will feature the furry animals in an episode of the show, which is set to air on Monday, February 27.

The TV show celebrates inspirational farming families and the rural events where they showcase their hard work, as they try to win the top prizes.

Stuart Ramsay from Velvet Hall Alpacas, told the Peeblesshire News: "The BBC contacted us in the Autumn of last year and wanted us to take part in a new farming programme. They spent a couple of days filming with us at Velvet Hall in Innerleithen, and then at the Westmorland County Show where we were showing our alpacas.

"We do Alpaca walks and also supply Alpacas as ring bearers at weddings. It was great to show the Alpacas and diversification that we have brought to our business.

"We're looking forward to for folk in the Borders to see small local business on BBC One TV show."

Jean and Stuart Ramsay fell in love with the Alpacas after seeing them for the first time at the Border Union Show at Kelso in 2011.

The pair initially bought four pet boy Alpacas for their land in the Tweed Valley, and several years later, four have since turned into 12.

The Alpacas are available for various events, including Trekking and Wedding Packages ranging from walking down the aisle, to being included in the photography.

The programme will air on BBC One Scotland at 3.45pm on Monday, February 27 and will be repreated the following morning at 7.15am on BBC Two.

The show will be available on the BBC iPlayer catch up service for seven days after the first broadcast.
