RESIDENTS in Peebles have vented their frustration due to high kerbs damaging their cars.

Eddie Smith, who sits on the Peebles Community Council, told the Peeblesshire News that he and his neighbours along Forest View have resorted to using planks of wood and old scaffolding boards to bridge the gap between the kerbside and the road to reach their drives.

Eddie said: “The problem about the high kerb levels in my street has been going on for long time now, and many folk have resorted to getting old scaffolding boards and placing them at the kerbside to help their cars get onto driveways. Some neighbours down the road have bought a rubber ramp to go next to the kerb to avoid damage to their vehicles.

“It’s ridiculous that this has gone on for so long, and we want SBC to help us sort this out.”

Eddie’s neighbour Jennifer Grant told us: “The high kerbsides have been problematic for years, especially for many of the neighbours who live along this street. Given how steep they are, they have caused much damage to vehicles, including my car.”

We asked the local authority about the ongoing situation.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the existing roadside kerb levels in Forest View, Peebles.

“The alterations to the roadside kerbs in a nearby street were undertaken a number of years ago as part of a carriageway resurfacing project.

Currently the council has no plans to undertake carriageway resurfacing in Forest View, however, works to amend the kerb heights in this area continue to be considered for possible inclusion within future planned works programmes.”
