RESIDENTS of a Melrose retirement housing development have clubbed together to raise £600 for a new Doppler machine.

Tenants at Priorwood Court raised the funds through sale tables and raffles for the apparatus which measures blood flow around the body.

And staff are delighted with the new equipment, which was presented on Wednesday afternoon.

Margaret Mason, the manager of Priorwood Court, told us: "It came about when the tenants decided they would like to do something for the nurses.

"The nurses are their first port of call and tenants didn't want them to feel under appreciated so they decided to get the new Doppler machine.

"Normally you would have to go on a waiting list to use a machine like this, but now it can be done here instead.

"They managed to raise the money through sales and raffles and everybody was purchasing tickets. In the end we managed to raise £600.

"Everybody was getting involved and we are very proud of what we have done."
