NOMINATIONS are being sought for residents to join Peebles Community Council.

Peebles Community Council meets in the evening of the second Thursday of each month in the Old Burgh Chamber (pictured) at the Chambers Institution.

As well as being a statutory body which is consulted on all local and central government decisions regarding the town, the Community Council is also proactive in organising and supporting local projects.

The Returning Officer, SBC Councillor Graham Garvie, said: “Community Councils are important bodies who are required to be consulted on a range of issues and services affecting the people.”

Councillor Garvie and Deputy Returning Officer, Councillor Keith Cockburn, are encouraging people in Peebles to consider standing for election.

All nominees must be resident in the Community Council area and their name must be on the Electoral Register.

The Register can be checked at Peebles Library or by phoning the Electoral Registration Office at Scottish Borders Council on 01835 825100.

Nomination forms are available from Peebles Library, the Post Office in the Eastgate, and online at www.peeblescommunity.org.

The closing date for nominations is Tuesday, March 21 and the election, if required, will be held on Tuesday, April 18.
