A TWEEDDALE train exhibition is to making a return trip to the Newlands Centre in West Linton.

Following on from the success of the first event last year, the Tweeddale Railway Society's Railway and Model Layout Exhibition is returning to Peeblesshire later next weekend.

The two-day event on March 18 and 19 between 10am and 4pm will be themed around ‘Industrial Light Railways’ and their previous use in the area.

Industrial Light Railways were the mainstays of British Industry, as small engines carried out vital transport and distribution tasks at a range of sites throughout the UK.

The society has also acquired ‘Christine’, a dilapidated peat workings locomotive and are in the process of restoring her. 'Christine' has been given a new coat of paint and will be standing at the entrance to the exhibition to welcome all visitors.

Organisers plan is to have ‘Christine’ in fully working order for their 2018 exhibition.

Event manager Neil Clunie said: "We're looking forward to a return of the Railway Exhibition. This year, the content ranges from large Model layouts, a dedicated Children Area, railway modelling workshops, trade exhibitors, static exhibits and more.

"Thanks to all exhibitors, traders and sponsors for supporting our venture."
