PEEBLES Netball Adults’ section is celebrating two of its own making it into Netball Scotland’s new flagship Performance League, both on and off the court.

The initiative brings together national players along with the cream of Scotland’s club talent, to play in a new high performance league over the coming months.

Peebles Netball players, teacher Jane Eyre and student Anna Miller were talent spotted earlier in the season and invited to trial for the league.

Mid-courter Jane, originally from Ireland made it all the way, and was named last week in one of four squads to battle it out on the court in a series of matches.

And off the court, Peebles Netball is beginning to get a name for its umpiring prowess, with Faye Nicholson, local athlete and primary school teacher, appointed as one of ten Scottish umpires to umpire the elite matches, under the watchful eye of mentoring guru Bill Alexander from England.

The selection of both Jane and Faye for the Performance League reflects the success of the Peebles Netball adults’ section, set up with lottery funding three years ago, in addition to Peebles Netball innovative umpire mentor scheme, "On Your Whistle", established by Faye, and which has been running for one year.

Matches will be on March 12, April 2, April 9 and April 23 in Perth. Former Peebles Netball player Jenny Hudson has also been selected to play.
