NEW facilities have been unveiled for students at the Borders Campus of Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels.

The major investment into the student lounge space features a brand new six-foot freeplay pool table along with comfortable sofas, a smart TV and board games.

The space is completed by a state-of-the-art coffee vending machine and an outdoor terrace area with a sweeping view of the campus.

The social space, which opened earlier this year, has received positive feedback from students.

Vice-president of the Borders College Campus, Corto Pimenta, told us: “The Thread opened this year thanks to the past and present students that manifested their wish for a new student social space over the last few years.

“I think this is a great reward that we have here, because it will allow our students to have a space in which they will be able to relax, to interact with each other, to meet new people, to organise events, and most importantly to get away from their study work for a few hours.

“This kind of space is something that was clearly missing on this campus. Since the Thread has opened, it has become something fundamental for our students as it brings a viable tool to the table, right between studies and social interaction.”
