A PEEBLES church is hoping residents grab a slice of the action and donate towards a national charity next Friday.

Held by Peebles Baptist Church, the team have organised a community Barbecue and Bake Sale in aid of Comic Relief.

Taking place at the King's Meadow Community Garden, located at the side of Victoria Park behind the Victoria Park Day Centre, the fundraiser will take place on Red Nose Day, Friday, March 24 between 4pm to 6pm.

Pastor of the Baptist Church, Ian Gray told us: "Comic Relief is doing some exciting work to move towards a just world that's free from poverty. That's something that we believe in too, so we wanted to play a part in that - as well as have a lot of fun, build up the community and be good news for the South side of Peebles!"

For several years, the church has been running Sunday barbecues every month during the Summer, and has long practised in baking.

Ian added: "As a visitor once remarked, 'they seem to do food at every opportunity!', putting the two together and raising funds for such a fun event sounded like too good an opportunity to miss!"
