A BORDERS MP has been caught up in a 'terrorist incident' at the UK Parliament in which a woman has died.

Calum Kerr, MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk has told us of the unfolding events in Westminister this afternoon.

A policeman has been stabbed and his attacker has been shot by officers after a terrorist incident was declared at the Houses of Parliament.

The attacker mowed down several pedestrians as he drove a grey Hyundai i40 across Westminster Bridge before crashing it into railings then running through the gates of the Palace of Westminster and stabbing the officer.

Calum told the Border Telegraph and Peeblesshire News what happened at the time of the incident: "I was coming across from Portcullis House as a vote had been called. Suddenly there was panic and people were running towards me shouting shots fired.

"Then armed police started running towards me heading towards Portcullis House.

"As a result I headed across towards the main chamber and saw what appeared to be two bodies down in New Palace Yard, surrounded by people who looked to be treating them.

"We were ushered inside and put into lockdown. We have since been evacuated to Speakers Square. Thoughts with everyone directly affected."

David Mundell, MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale said: "I want to confirm that I am perfectly okay following today's incident at Westminster.

"My thoughts are with all those involved. Thanks also to those who asked about my safety."

The Scottish Parliament has suspended debate on a second independence referendum following the attack in London.
