AN Earlston mum has put her best foot forward after raising over £3,000 through a sponsored charity walk across the Borders.

Tasha Johnston organised the fundraising walk following the death of her uncle Paddy, who died at the age of 43 in 2015.

Paddy suffered from MS, and to mark the two years since his death, Tasha encouraged over 30 other people to join her in 14-mile fundraising trip around Earlston in aid of MS Society Scotland.

Tasha and her team set off from Earlston on Sunday, March 5, with the route taking them through Leaderfoot, Newstead and Melrose before returning to Earlston for some well-deserved refreshments.

The fundraising efforts paid off after a grand-total of £3,019.50 was donated in his memory.

25-year-old Tasha told us: “I wanted to do something so I decided to come up with a sponsored walk in Paddy’s memory to raise money for MS. To get over £3,000 was outstanding, I was completely shocked and overwhelmed at how well we had all done and how generous people had been.

“No matter how bad it got for Paddy, he stayed bright and his sense of humour was outstanding. He was a keen Celtic supporter who was outgoing and a genuinely nice guy who would do anything he could for anyone.”

She added: “I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to do this, so we could raise money for MS.

“Thanks also go to piper Ewan McGeorge, who piped us off and thanks to The Swan Bar who put on refreshments for our return and entertainment at night.”

More than 11,000 people in Scotland live with MS which can affect how a person thinks, feels and moves.

The unpredictable condition can be painful and is different for everyone.
