Tweeddale Rovers 0

Danderhall Miners 2

SOUTH of Scotland Cup holders Danderhall Miners will have the chance to defend their trophy after a 2-0 victory over Tweeddale Rovers in the semi-final on Wednesday night.

As one of the top sides in Lothian and Edinburgh amateurs, Danderhall went into the game as heavy favourites, having disposed of another Borders side, Greenlaw, 6-0 in the last round.

However, Tweeddale gave them a bit of a scare and hit the woodwork twice in the opening stages.

Simon Warren strode forward from the centre of the park and struck the base of the post with his weaker right foot, and when the ball came back into play Grant Wilson had a shot cleared off the line.

Next to hit the frame of the goal was Wilson when he put a header back across goal, the ball just dropping too late and hitting the top of the bar.

Hall began to enjoy lots of possession and their best effort was a Darren Anderson volley from Mark Moncrieff’s cross, but Ryan Bertram made a top save.

A stroke of luck saw them take the lead right on half time when James Laing’s free kick took a massive deflection and ended up in the net.

Boosted by that, Danderhall came out in the second half looking confident and got a second.

Thomas Crease was played onside and had time and space to pick his spot in Bertram’s goal.

Tweeddale remained a threat and Blair Moffat almost made it interesting after winning the ball on the right and having a drive saved by Thomas Cordery.

They also had to be alert to make some crucial blocks in their own box to prevent the score from increasing.

Tweeddale Rovers: Bertram, F.Moffat (B.Moffat), Robertson, Dobie, Macleod (Gray), McDonald (Shortreed), R.Meikle, Warren (Mullins), B.Meikle (Collin), G.Wilson, Inglis
