TOWNSFOLK flocked to the Burgh Chambers this evening to catch a first glimpse of this year's Braw Lad and Braw Lass.

Greg Robertson and Amy Thomson stepped onto the balcony and were greeted with cheers and applause.

And both are relishing the opportunity of representing Galashiels this year.

Greg, 21, attended Langlee Primary and Galashiels Academy.

He now works as a finance and business manager with the Scottish Government.

He told the Border Telegraph: "It's fantastic. I'm very proud to be the Braw Lad and represent the town of Galashiels.

"I have known for a number of weeks and it has been a great secret and I am pleased that it's finally out."

Amy, 20, attended St Peter's Primary and Galashiels Academy.

She is now a student at Edinburgh University studying primary teaching.

She said: "It's a real honour to be selected as Braw Lass.

"My mum was Braw Lass in 1985 and my dad was Bearer of the Sod in 1988, so I have been involved with the Gathering for many years.

"I am really looking forward to it all."

President of the Braw Lads' Gathering David Romanis said: "It has been a fantastic turnout tonight and I think the weather does help with these things, but it's good to see such a good turnout for six fine young people who are going to be the Principals."

Don't miss Wednesday's Border Telegraph for full interviews and photos.

And good luck to Greg and Amy from everyone at the Border Telegraph!
