THE countdown to this year's Selkirk Common Riding begins this week with unveiling of the 2017 Standard Bearer.

Thousands of Souters will converge on the Market Place on Friday evening to welcome the Principals who will lead the festivities in June.

As with tradition, the Town Hall doors will be flung open at 7pm and the latest in a long line of Standard Bearers will be revealed.

His four Attendants will also be announced before supporters enjoy a march around the town.

Appointment Night in Selkirk is always colourful and musical with the town's Silver Band leading the procession along the High Street, up the Back Row, down the Kirk Wynd and back through the Market Place.

The Appointment Night Concert will take place in the Victoria Hall.

And later in the evening a dance will also take place from 9.30pm with music provided by Pulse.

As always the Border Telegraph will be there to report on the celebrations.

This year's Common Riding takes place on Friday, June 16.
