PUPILS at St Mary’s School, in Melrose asked their audiences to follow the yellow brick road.

And they did as the children took us on a wonderful adventure as they staged their production of the RSC ‘Wizard of Oz’, last month, writes Kirsty McRae.

Over three performances, Lucy M was outstanding in her role as Dorothy and was matched in talent by her friends Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion, played by Otto K, Alexander F and Tommy D-B.

The chorus portrayed the munchkins, people of the Emerald City and the much-feared Winkies with great character and kept audiences spellbound throughout.

The magic of this 1939 classic movie was brought to life with a wonderful set provided by The Border Studio and music provided by our house band.

Thanks once again go to the whole production team who helped pull together the set, props, lights and sound. Special mention to Dave Angus, Alan Watters and Andy Mason for their expertise.

The pupils were also delighted to be able to support the Tour de Lauder, in memory of Steve Cully, by donating proceeds from one of the performances, as well as generous donations from audience members, at the event.

This amounted to £1,136 over the course of the week.

Thanks to all who supported such a worthy cause.
