TRANSPORT Scotland has said it will review its decision not to signpost Melrose on the A68.
Last month we revealed the organisation rejected proposals to erect new traffic signs as the town was not listed in an index note from 1994.
At last month’s Melrose and District Community Council meeting, leader David Parker explained the Melrose Traders’ Association had raised money for new green road signs and tourism boards for the area.
But while the brown tourism signs were given the green light, the traffic signs were turned down.
Mr Parker revealed he had sent a “strongly worded letter” to Transport Scotland and described the decision as “silly”.
But now the Leaderdale and Melrose ward councillor says the decision will be reviewed.
He told this month’s community council meeting: “Transport Scotland have responded to the letter and say they will revise their original decision.
“They have told me they will get back to us in due course, so we should probably expect to hear something by June.”
