THE Rowan Boland Memorial Trust have had a £250 cash injection, thanks to the Scottish Building Society (SBS).

Members of the building society's Borders branch chose to invest in the group as part of its Community Charity of the Year scheme.

The group supports young sports-stars across the region to help them further their sporting careers.

And the cheque presentation was made this week by Alex Moffat of SBS to trust chairman Dave Boland and trustee Kristin Boland.

Alex said: "We are delighted to be supporting the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust through our Community Charity of the Year programme.

"Each year our members vote for the charities they would like to support in their local communities and this year the Trust received the largest share of the vote.

"Our staff and members in the Borders are looking forward to supporting the team at the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust throughout the year through fundraising and awareness."

David Boland added: "We could not support the number of junior sportspeople and clubs as we do without the help of organisations such as the Scottish Building Society.

"We hope it is the start of a long relationship between the Trust and SBS."

Meanwhile, the Rowan Boland Trust and Gala Harriers' seventh annual Meigle Run returns on Friday, May 12.

Starting at Gala Cricket Club on Manse Street, there will a junior run, 5km fun run/walk and 10km Meigle run, with food and refreshments on offer throughout the evening.

Registration begins at 5pm, with races starting from 6pm.

The event has raised thousands of pounds for the Trust since it began in 2011.
