AMAZING Spaces presenter George Clarke admits he’s been blown away by the Borders.

The Channel 4 prime-time TV star visited the region at the weekend with some friends to walk the 62-mile St Cuthbert’s Way. Starting in Melrose on Friday they reached Holy Island on Monday.

The four-day route, which was established in 1996, takes in some of the most picturesque places of the Borders, travelling through the Eildon Hills, St Boswells, Morebattle, Town Yetholm, Hethpool, Wooler, Horton, St Cuthbert’s Cave and Fenwick, before finishing on the Northumberland coast.

The Restoration Man presenter was spotted by locals in the car park of the Buccleuch Arms at St Boswells on Friday morning.

Speaking after completing the walk on Monday, George told the Border Telegraph: “I’ve wanted to walk St Cuthbert’s Way since it was created in 1996. I love walks that capture natural beauty and unique history at the same time, and the walk through the Scottish Borders and Northumberland was one of my favourite of all time.”

The 100km cross-border route, which links the Borders with the coast, is where St. Cuthbert started his religious life in 650AD.

Although popular as a pilgrimage route, the St Cuthbert’s Way is seen by some as a spiritual experience for any person driven by the landscape and the history.
