A former Hawick Cornet has walked free from an assault charge at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Greg McLeod - who headed the Hawick festival celebrations in 2003 - had pleaded not guilty to punching a man on the head whereby he was knocked to the ground and rendered unconcious in Sandbed, Hawick, on December 4.
But before the trial could get underway the Crown announced it was deserting the case against the 39-year-old of Weensland Road, Hawick.
