A LAUDER restaurant has scooped a top culinary award at a ceremony on Thursday.

The Firebrick Brasserie, in Market Place, was named the‘Restaurant Newcomer of the Year’ at the Catering in Scotland Excellence Awards in Glasgow.

The accolade was set up to recognise businesses which set a benchmark for service, quality and value for money.

The restaurant was opened in 2015 by award-winning chef/owner duo David Haetzman and Amanda Jordan.

And the award follows success in last year's Borders Food and Drink Awards, where the restaurant was given the accolade of ‘Best New Restaurant’.

David told the Border Telegraph: "The Catering in Scotland Excellence Awards are among the most prestigious culinary awards in Scotland so we are thrilled to be named ‘Restaurant Newcomer of the Year’.

"It’s fantastic to be recognised by industry experts for our high quality seasonal cooking and family-friendly offering.

"We pride ourselves on our use of top calibre ingredients and local produce which we believe is one of the keys to our success.

"Our team works extremely hard to ensure our customers have a relaxed and enjoyable time dining in our restaurant, and this is a testament to their hard work."
