CLASSIC car enthusiasts from all over the UK will be racing towards Thirlestane Castle this weekend.

And joining them are the lucky winners of our fantastic Scottish Borders Historic Motoring Extravaganza competition.

Bridget Stephenson from Selkirk was the outright winner and receives a day to remember with a tour of the Borders in a classic car before enjoying lunch at the award-winning Firebrick Brasserie.

Bridget and a friend will then enjoy a VIP day at the Extravaganza as well as a guided tour of the magnificent Thirlestane Castle.

We also had ten pairs of tickets to give away to our runners-up.

And they are: Mark Neil from Galashiels, Val Miller from Melrose, Sheila Scott from Galashiels, Miss S Richards from Melrose, Andrew Gordon from Dundee, Ross Robertson from Kelso, Isobel Hunter from Armadale, Catherine Watson from Lauder, Jillian Malkin from Selkirk, and Libby Lindsay from Melrose.

For the last 44 years, visitors from the across the UK have been making the journey to the Borders to enjoy one of the very best classic car events in the whole country.

And more than 7,000 are expected on Sunday at Thirlestane Castle as well as over 1,000 classic vehicles.

This year’s event will be the 45th that has been organised by the Borders Vintage Automobile Club and to mark this impressive milestone, the show will be celebrating the history of the Great British Sports Car.

The line-up will feature 25 sports cars which will be taking part in the Great British Sports Car Parade, including a 1912 and 1914 Vauxhall Prince Henry, a 1920s Bentley and a 1930s Aston Martin.

Manuela Calchini, VisitScotland Regional Partnerships Director for the South of Scotland, said: "The Scottish Borders Historic Motoring Extravaganza is now a firm fixture on the national and international festival calendar, set within the picturesque grounds of Thirlestane Castle.

"Events like this provide the perfect opportunity for a family day out in the stunning scenery and countryside of the Scottish Borders and provide a boost to the local visitor economy.

"There will be lots to see and do on the day and it will give visitors the opportunity to see some great cars and also see the very best of what the region has to offer.”

As well as the sports cars, there will be a whole host of other vehicles including motorcycles, commercial, steam, military and agricultural vehicles on display, complemented by a superb range of attractions and entertainment for the family.

The event also supports Sporting Bears who will be raising money for the children’s charity React.

Sporting Bears Dream Rides take visitors on a ten-mile trip through the Borders countryside in the car of their dreams, simply for a donation to the chosen charity.
