TWO people have been arrested after police recovered quantities of Class A and B drugs from properties in the Borders.

On Friday, June 2, local officers, supported by the Lothians and Borders Proactive Unit, and partners from the SSPCA and Trading Standards carried out searches of three addresses in Chay Blyth Place, McLagan Drive and Bridgehouse in Hawick as part of an intelligence-led multi-agency initiative.

As a result, ecstacy, cocaine and cannabis worth around £15,000 were seized along with drug paraphernalia and a four-figure sum of cash.

In addition, a large quantity of clothing and footwear, believed to be counterfeit, was also removed and sent for further examination.

A 53-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Inspector Bryan Burns said: "The purpose of Friday's activity was to identify counterfeit goods as part of the ongoing Operation Crossfire.

"A number of items have been seized from the properties we searched and will be analysed to establish if they are genuine or fake.

"However, while within these addresses a sizeable quantity of harmful drugs was also recovered, with two people having now been charged.

"These arrests should be a very stark reminder to those involved in drug crime that we are conducting a range of proactive inquiries every day with the help of our partners and the local communities and should you be found to be in possession of any illegal substances, you will be robustly dealt with.

"If anyone of aware of counterfeit goods being sold or have been offered what they believe to be fake goods, I’m urging them to contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively they can anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
