A FLAG has been raised at Scottish Borders Council's headquarters in Newtown to pay tribute to servicemen and women, past and present.
Armed Forces Day is on Saturday, and local authorities across the country are all marking the occasion.
SBC has also arranged for the flag to fly at several council buildings across the region.
Depute convener, councillor Tom Weatherston, said: "The Scottish Borders has a long and proud connection with our armed forces and the annual raising of the flag is an important symbol of our appreciation for everything that our brave servicemen and women have done and continue to do to keep us all safe.
"Given the recent events in Manchester and London, it is particularly important that we stand in solidarity with them this year and acknowledge the vital work they do every day to protect and defend us from harm.”
Councillor Harry Scott, SBC’s Armed Forces and Veterans Champion, added: "Having recently been appointed to this role, I was honoured to attend today’s ceremony with our other invited guests and show my gratitude for the dedication of servicemen and women from across the years who have fought so bravely on our behalf, and for those who remain committed to doing so."
