HEALTH bosses are “delighted” with Galashiels’ newest medical centre.

The £1.8million project saw the former ambulance base in Roxburgh Street, transformed into a purpose-built health centre accommodating GPs, health visitors and district nurses for NHS Borders.

And the surgery, which opened to the public last month, includes consulting rooms and ambulance crew rooms along with other medical facilities.

A Spokesperson for NHS Borders said: “We are delighted that the new Health Centre at Roxburgh Street in Galashiels is now open.

“The health centre replaces the former Roxburgh Street Surgery and is set over two floors. The ground floor accommodation has a reception, waiting areas, consulting and treatment rooms and ancillary services.

“There is also a room for the Scottish Ambulance Service. The first floor accommodation has staff and office space with areas for District Nurses and Health Visitors. The new Health Centre will help us to continue to provide high quality health services to meet the current and future needs of the local community.”

And the builders in charge of the project are also happy with the final outcome.

Simon Phillips of Esh Border Construction, who carried out the work, told the Border Telegraph: “It is vital when undertaking healthcare projects to deliver exactly what is required to a meticulously high standard - our clients and the public rightly expect nothing less from us.

“Careful planning and preparation is put in by our teams in full consultation with the client, with project commencement representing the culmination of a huge amount of partnership work.

“We take great pride in producing a final outcome which is indicative of a modern health care facility whilst maintaining the highest standards, ease of use and access for the general public.”
