TWO days have been set aside for legal debate over a £1.6 compensation claim relating to the construction of the Borders Railway.

Scottish Borders Council have launched an action against Network Rail for the repair of roads, bridges and walls which were damaged during the building of the £300 million line.

A hearing took place at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Wednesday when a debate was fixed for September 26 and 27.

Legal pleas from both parties will be heard on those dates.

It is understood talks at a resolution with Network Rail which owns and manages Scotland's rail infrastructure broke down with several matters still in dispute.

The claim centres on the catalogue of damage inflicted on and around the A7 corridor north of Galashiels – detrunked and the the responsibility of the council since 1994.

The council said they picked up the tabs for the repairs which they argued were the responsibility of Network Rail and are now suing for the sum owed.

It is said this happened in the weeks before the railway which runs between Edinburgh and Tweedbank opened in September, 2015.
