A BORDERS-WIDE programme has hop, skipped and jumped to land a volunteer award.

Live Borders’ Active Schools has collected a ‘Volunteer Friendly’ award, part a national scheme delivered by Volunteer Centre Borders (VCB).

Assessors scrutinised the Active Schools’ policies and procedures covering aspects such as training, motivation, equality and communication.

The programme provides higher quality opportunities for young people to take part in sport and physical activity.

VCB executive officer, Gordon Brown, said: “Volunteers are an integral part of Live Borders and this is obvious from their work plans and how they are supported in their volunteering roles.

“At a time when volunteers are needed more than ever before to help support delivery of many of the services which make our communities so healthy and vibrant, its great that Active Schools is one of many organisations putting its volunteers at the forefront of their strategic planning.”

Live Borders’ Active Communities manager Graeme Murdoch added: “The Borders Active Schools team is delighted to receive the Volunteer Friendly Award.

“It is fantastic recognition for the commitment that we make to ensuring volunteers within our organisation are valued and supported through all parts of their volunteer experience.

“The award has been a great way for us to reflect on our processes and procedures and to identify areas for development.”

Volunteer Centre Borders provides volunteering advice, information and support in the Borders.

The group works with a range of partners to ensure volunteering is recognised as an integral part of the area’s health and prosperity.
