NORMAL train services on the Borders Railway have resumed following a death on the line this morning.

The person, who has not yet been named by authorities, was struck by a train on Glenesk Viaduct at 11.44am.

British Transport Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police told us: "We attended along with colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."

The death is the first on the line since the railway re-opened in 2015.

Passengers were advised to use alternative bus transport during the 90-minute suspension of services.

The 13:24 Edinburgh to Tweedbank was the first service to operate towards Tweedbank after the line re-opened.

And the 14:28 Tweedbank to Edinburgh was the first service to operate towards Edinburgh.

A ScotRail Alliance spokesperson said: “Services on Borders Railway were suspended for around an hour due to a person being struck by a train on the line.

"Full services resumed at 1pm.”
