IT was jam-packed week of celebration for the residents of Walkerburn as the village held its annual Summer Festival.

The events kicked off with a church service and wreath laying on Sunday, June 25, followed by a well-attended bike ride along to Elibank.

Then on Monday, the spotlight was on Martha Bremner for her installation as Festival Lass along with essay winner Rosie Callaghan at the popular festival concert.

There was fun for all the family throughout the week – the rugby club held a craft night on Tuesday, Alexandra Park played host to a scavenger hunt on Wednesday and a party for the Festival Lass plus a quiz took place in the HB Club.

The rain didn’t stop proceedings as the village welcomed in the weekend.

On Friday night, Walkerburn burst into colour for the fancy dress parade, and the skies lit up with a spectacular bonfire night, torchlight parade and firework display.

The fun continued into Saturday with adult sports events and a bike assault course before the week culminated on Sunday with the annual boat race and dominoes at the HB Club.

Dawn Rodger, treasurer of Walkerburn Festival told us: “Once again our fantastic festival week was well attended and enjoyed by everyone.

“My thanks to all who came along and helped out. We’re looking forward to doing it all over again same time next year.”
