RARE flying jackets are amongst a £100,000 haul stolen from a Galashiels leather store this week.

Bosses at Aero Leather Clothing are still calculating the extent of Monday morning's robbery at their factory outlet.

But it is thought that around 110 individually tailored - and highly valuable - jackets were taken during the raid at Greenbank Mill.

Managing director Denny Calder told the Border Telegraph: "This is one hell of a set back for a small business like ours.

"The jackets which were taken amounts to about two weeks of work for us.

"We are a small company which supports 20 employees and we can't afford to have something like this happen.

"We will bounce back and we do have loyal customers - but this has been terrible for everyone involved with the company."

Around half of the jackets which were stolen were ready to be shipped out to customers around the world.

Several were original flying jackets and many others were Aero originals from 20 to 30 years ago which had been refurbished in the workshops.

Detectives believe the Huddersfield Street premises were entered just after 2am on Monday.

Checks are being carried out on CCTV from the town centre as well as surrounding premises.

Anyone with information should contact Galashiels CID on 101, quoting incident number 0722 of July 10.
