POLICE issued 22 parking tickets in in Peebles between June 8 and July 12.

At the recent community council meeting, members heard that parking, speeding, and anti-social behaviour continue to be tackled by Police in the town. 

The police report revealed that a driver was issued with an anti-social behaviour order and given a fixed penalty ticket for careless driving on June 17 following a complaint. 

A suspected drink driver was reported in March Street on July 1. No registration number was obtained but a description of the vehicle was circulated. On July 3 and 7, two males were detected for drink driving. Both have since been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

There have been eight reported incidents of anti-social behaviour in the last month.

On June 10, a complaint was received of loud music coming from an event on Tweed Green, but no loud music was discovered by the officer who attended. 

Youths were accused of causing a nuisance outside Sainsbury’s on June 12. Another incident reported youths removing items from a skip on Tweed Green on June 13. Officers were unable to attend due to higher graded calls. 

Youths were reported to be harassing a delivery driver at Sainsbury’s on June 18. Officers attended but the youths had run off. 

The same day, around 10 youths were allegedly shouting, swearing and drinking alcohol near to the Quadrangle. Officers attended and found a few youths. They were not causing any bother, but were said to be a bit noisy and moved on. 

A complaint was received regarding skateboarders in East Station Car Park on July 3. Officers attended and found no trace of them. 

The next day, on July 4, a complaint was received regarding eggs being thrown at window of a property in Cross Road. Officers attended but could find no trace of those responsible. Police said they were aware that eggs were thrown at other properties in the town but these had not been reported.

On July 5, a report was received that a window of the swimming pool had been spray painted. Staff washed it off and no permanent damage was caused. 

A hate incident was recorded on July 2, following a number of calls regarding a male preaching outside the Parish Church and on Peebles High Street. Officers attended and spoke with the male.
