PEEBLES is preparing for the return of the town’s annual agricultural show, with organisers hailing it as the best line-up yet.

Held on Saturday, August 12, it’s one of the largest entries of livestock in Scotland.

Take the family along and enjoy a day full of exciting activities with all the traditional farm-yard favourites, such as carriage driving, stock judging and a vintage tractor exhibition.

There’s an opportunity to get up close and personal with owls and eagles at the birds of prey exhibit, and relax with a refreshing drink at the prosecco bar.

The Nether Horsburgh Farm showground will host a mixture of stock judging competitions.

Sheep, cattle, poultry and equestrian classes will be preened and prepped to ensure they are looking their best under the watchful eye of the judges.

And the animal action doesn’t end there, with rabbits, donkeys and dogs competing for the prestigious Best in Show crown. You can even bring along your own pet on the day and enter the Children’s Pet Show.

The equestrian area is always packed with action, with everything from Clydesdales to Mountain and Moorland Ponies strutting their stuff. There will also be showjumping, plus the most hotly contested title of the day, the horse fancy dress.

The show is a great opportunity to meet and chat with local businesses, plus to sample some of the delicious food and drink on offer.

New for 2017 is The Clan, Scotland’s cycle stunt team who will be getting into gear to dazzle the crowds with a variety of hair-raising displays and skills.

Organiser of this year’s show Bill Brown told us: “I’d encourage as many people to come along to this year’s show, featuring our best line-up yet. We have a huge array of livestock, sheep, cattle and horses coming along. In addition to the appearance of the animals, there’s around 100 trade stalls, including craft tent with new stalls, an industrial tent and a foodhall, so there’s something for everyone.

“There are plans to offer free buses from Peebles and Innerleithen to the showground with Barc Travel, further details of this will be posted on our Facebook page in due course.

“All we need now is some good weather for this year’s event, fingers crossed!”
