A MOTORIST who was caught drink driving twice in the space of two months has been banned from the road for three years at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Thirty-four-year-old Anthony Watson was driving from his home in Hutton to get cigarettes Berwick-upon-Tweed at 1.30am on Saturday, February 2, when he lost control of his car and collided with a gate post near to Paxton House.
He left the scene and when police caught up with him he failed to confirm the identity of the driver and later said it must have been his brother who lives in Northumberland but that was false.
Several hours after the collision he gave a breath/alcohol reading of 43 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22.
On April 4 he was caught drink driving again on the B6460 road when he was going to visit his girlfriend and the reading on this occasion was 44 microgrammes.
Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said Watson had not consumed any alcohol since the last offence.
In addition, to the three year ban he was fined a total of £750 for the two drink driving offences, failing to give the identity of the driver of a vehicle and wasting police time by giving his brother's name.
