BANK Street Gardens in Galashiels were in full bloom last weekend as judging took place for this year’s Floral Gateway Competition.

Murray Dickson, Sandy McVicar and Alaistar Waddell inspected the area on Saturday ahead of the upcoming awards ceremony in September.

Nominations closed on May 26, with five Floral Gateway awards up for grabs to communities across the Borders.

The five awards are: Wee villages, with a maximum population of 300; small villages, with a population between 301 and 1,000; large villages, with a population between 1,001 and 2,500; towns, with a population over 2,500; and champion of champions, which sees the class winners from the previous year go head-to-head against each other.

The date of the awards evening is to be confirmed by Scottish Borders Council.
