CLASSIC cars and vintage vehicles descended on the agricultural showground for the 44th Biggar Rally on Sunday.

The annual rally commemorates Scottish motoring pioneers Thomas Blackwood Murray and his brother-in-law Norman Fulton, who established the Albion Company in 1900.

The show gives people the chance to show off their classic cars and browse the field to see the fantastic motors.

Helen Carrick, secretary of the rally committee told the Peeblesshire News: “We had a great day, and many of our visitors were very impressed with the range of vehicles on offer.

“There was plenty to see with an impressive 900 exhibits and 80 stalls, plus we’re delighted to say that around 6,000 people attended the rally this year.

“One highlight of this year’s rally was the 1901 Albion car.

“The vehicle has been off the road for a number of years, and has finally had an engine refit to give the car a new lease of life.

“It was wonderful to see and hear the car out and about once again.

“I’d like to give a big thank you to the committee members for all their hard work in the run up to the event, and also on the day.

“My thanks also go to the many locals for their patience on Sunday as the roads in and out of Biggar coped with the huge volume of traffic around the showground.”

The Biggar Rally is set to return to the town’s agricultural showground in August 2018.
